Untitled improvised solo
Performed by Orla Collier
Length: 15 minutes
Untitled improvised solo is a structured improvisation piece where Orla reads out a provocative quote taken from The Red Book by Carl Jung, scrunches up the paper, and then moves. This structure is repeated three times.
Orla's aim is to "forget" about what she has read and to move by impulse, leaving the audience to interpret and make associations.
'In the following night, the air was filled with many voices. A loud voice called, 'I am falling'. Others cried out confused and excited during this, 'where to?', 'what do you want?'. Should I entrust myself to this confusion. I shuddered. It is a dreadful deep.'
'Do you still know me?'
'Every step closer to my soul excites the scornful laughter of my devils. Those cowardly ear whisperers, and poison mixers. It was easy for them to laugh, since I had to do strange things.'
Untitled improvised solo was created for 5OLOS dance event curated by Kennedy Muntanga at Blue Elephant Theatre in London, and later performed at Gutter Sprung curated by Hannah Mason at The Horse Hospital in London.
